Not all of us are so lucky to live close to big mountains and ski slopes. Some of us don't even like steep slopes and high speed. Whatever the situation may be for you, cross-country skiing might be the right answer. In todays article we will have a look at how to make cross-country even more enjoyable and easy.
What is cross-country skiing?
Cross-country skiing, often referred to as Nordic skiing, is a winter sport where participants use skis to travel across relatively flat terrain. It's a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise during the winter months. In traditional cross-country skiing, participants use long, narrow skis that are designed to provide efficient gliding and good traction. These skis are longer than those used in downhill skiing and are often equipped with bindings that allow the heel to lift off the ski, enabling a more natural striding motion.
But have you ever wished to enjoy winter nature and scenery without wearing long skis that do not allow you to get to places that are unique? It is possible now!

Can Cross-Country skiing be made easier?
If you imagine that you have to ski on long narrow skis, with wobbly shoes that you have to attach to those skis and try to maintain your balance on them with a loose heel, that might seem quite frightening, especially when you're about to go downhill.
And now imagine, that nothing of this is necessary for you to enjoy the beautiful winter scenery while going on cross-country trails. We have developed a brand new winter product called Snowfeet* that allows you to experience cross–country skiing without having to carry around all the equipment. These portable attachments turn your snowboard boots or winter shoes into ski skates!
When you've got Snowfeet*, all the uncertainties and dangers are gone. You are staying in your comfort zone and you are enjoying the ride like you were just simply skating on snow!
„This unique set of footwear can also be used for cross-country skiing, providing a good aerobic workout on flat trails“ (Digital Trends).
Does weight matter for cross country skis?
Yes, the weight of cross-country skis does matter and can have an impact on your skiing experience. The weight of the skis can affect various aspects of your performance, comfort, and maneuverability while skiing. Here are a few key points to consider:
Effort and Endurance
Lighter skis are generally easier to maneuver and require less effort to glide forward. This can be especially important during long cross-country skiing sessions, as heavier skis might lead to more fatigue over time.
Speed
Lighter skis tend to offer better acceleration and higher speeds on flat terrain due to reduced friction. This can be advantageous in races or when covering longer distances.
Control
Heavier skis might offer more stability and control, especially in challenging snow conditions or during descents. However, too much weight can make the skis feel cumbersome and less responsive.
Uphill Performance
Lighter skis are generally preferred for uphill sections, as they require less effort to lift and move. This can be particularly important in races or when tackling hilly terrain.
What are skate cross country skis?
A typical example of skate cross country skis are Snowfeet. They combine the skating movements usually with cross-country terrain and poles. Snowfeet's main advantage is that they are lighter and less constraining than regular long cross-country skis.
Do I have to Keep on the Cross-Country Trails?
The compactness and portability of Snowfeet* allow users to go to places beyond the well prepared cross-country trails. When you see a forest path or a shortcut through the trees, just go for it. Snowfeet* will let you go where no other winter gear will.
What Shoes do I need to Use with Snowfeet* for Cross-Country Skiing?
The greatest advantage of Snowfeet* is that you don't need any special ski boots. You can use these with any winter shoes that should have a good ankle support or you can wear your snowboard boots as well. Snowfeet* are simply snap-on-and-go snow skates that take you through the snow with incredible ease.

However, if you are more of a traditional cross-country skier who cannot imagine skiing without the free heel, we made something special for you, too.

Snowfeet Nordic* with only 90 cm of length are the shortest cross-country in the world! They fit all sizes in the range of 6-13 US / 38-47 EU.
They are suitable for all ages and since they are very light, they allow very agile movement.

How to cross country skis with short nordic skis?
Let's check together the most common techniques for smooth cross-country skiing with Snowfeet Nordic.
Kick and Glide:
- Place your skis parallel to each other and slide them forward, lifting your heels slightly.
- As you transfer your weight to one ski, press down on the ski's grip zone (wax pocket) under your foot. This provides traction.
- Glide on the gripping ski while sliding the other ski forward.
Diagonal Stride:
- To add power, push off with the poles while transferring your weight onto the opposite ski.
- Use your arms and poles to help propel you forward.
Double Poling:
- On flatter terrain, you can use a double pole motion to generate speed.
- Push off with both poles simultaneously while transferring weight onto the skis.
- Keep your core engaged for added power.
A few tips to make your nordic skiing even smoother:
- Maintain a relaxed stance and a slight forward lean.
- Keep your arms and hands relaxed while holding the poles.
- Practice balance and weight shifting between skis.
- Gradually increase your speed and intensity as you become more comfortable.

Hi Louisa,
Snowfeet are not designed to be use as ice skates. They are perfect for skating on snow.
Snowfeet work the best on a harder surface, ideally a groomed slope. They aren’t really suitable for deep powder.
Hope this will help. :)

Zdravíme k sousedům na Slovensko :)
Upevnění kotníku je samozřejmě zásadní – doporučujeme tedy pevnou obuv, kterou kotník budete dostatečně fixovat. Pro běžné používání Snowfeet (běžkování, sjíždění sjezdovek či lesních cest) zimní boty opravdu stačí, ale pokud preferujete rychlou jízdu, či náročnější terén, budou snowboardové boty vhodnější volbou. To stejné platí pro lyžaře s menší velikostí boty.
Hello there. :)
Regular winter shoes are suitable for Snowfeet. However, if you want to make sure that your leg is firmly fixed in its place, you can opt for snowboard boots. We also recommend snowboard boots for skiers of smaller shoe size.

otazka je, ako sa pouzivaju so zimnymi botami, ktore nedrzia nohu az tak, ako snowboardove boty – ci to nezatazuje nadmerne kotniky
